Ok, here we go... Time to try something completely different. After years of pounding the pavement to get fit, I recently caught the triathlon bug. Malindi and I got ourselves matching (how cute) Cervelo team soloists this summer and have been enjoying lots of riding before winter sets in here in Calgary. I also went to the pool a couple of months ago for the first time. I could not swim 100m without stopping! Luckily persistence has paid off and I now seem to have some semblence co-ordination in the water and my goal of being 'not-last' out of the water when I attempt a triathlon next year seem well within my grasp. I recently signed up for the Oliver Half Ironman on June 7th, 2009. I work best with deadlines!
So how have the first couple of months been going? Not bad; after a slow start to September due to school and work commitments, I've ramped things up over the last 6 weeks or so and have consistently been doing all three sports. School (MBA at U of C) is much easier this second year and I'm now work free with all kinds of daylight hours to spend swimming, biking and running. Having Malindi training twice a day keeps me going too and we're looking forward to the winter downstairs in the 'gym' and out on the trails (ski, running, whatever). Max (our dog) is even getting in on the action and keeping me company on some runs.
I've decided to write here to keep me honest with my training and solicit free advice from the triathlon world. My training for the last 4 weeks is below. I'll try to update it every 4 weeks or so.
